“Thrilling!”
“Stylistic integrity and convincing artistry present in every selection.”
“Delighting audiences for nearly twenty-five years!”
“In one moment, the flute soars above the pipe organ and swirls around the room. In the next, it becomes an integral stop on the organ itself. Dynamic!”
Doppelflöte’s enthusiasm (Melissa Freilich, flute; Vincent M. Ryan, organ) for making music together is evident in their impeccable ensemble. Comfortable with a wide variety of music, they continually strive to expand their repertoire, and are honored to have presented several premieres (November 2021 - Ryan: Suite for Baroque Flute and Organ; Börjesson: Sonatina for Do-Organ. September 2022- Meyn: With Pipes of Tin and Wood).
Teachers-at-heart, Melissa and Vince love to connect with their audience. Whether they explain the different flutes being played, describe the music itself, or build the Orgelkids kit (a real pipe organ assembled and played during the concert), they are committed to sharing a deeper understanding - and therefore a fuller enjoyment - of the music with the listener.
Together, Melissa and Vince are “Doppelflöte,” specializing in flute and organ concerts that are not just heard, but are experienced. Since 1998 they have performed together in numerous communities in the Philadelphia region, and in 2022 made their international debut in both the Castle Church and Town Church of Wittenberg, Germany.
“Our favorite moments are those of dialog - musical conversation - in which we understand each other best. We hope to convey this understanding with you, the listener.” - Melissa Freilich and Vincent M. Ryan
